Fall is the perfect time to drive around checking out the leaf colors as the trees change, but it’s also the perfect time to do some maintenance on your car. Fall is the transition to much colder weather, and you don’t want to get caught unprepared. Here are some tips from Max Mile Car Care Center.
Check Your Heater
As the weather starts to get cooler and cooler, you’re more likely to need your car’s heater. But when is the last time you ran it? Probably last spring or even last winter, right? If that’s the case, you should turn it on for a few minutes now and just make sure that it runs properly. That’s going to help you to figure out whether you need it repaired before it becomes necessary this fall and winter.
Double Check Safety Features Like Lights
Another big safety concern is the lights on your car. You should check your lights periodically because the bulbs can die on you without much warning and you may not realize it. Take the time to make sure that your brake lights, turn signal lights, and all headlights are functioning properly. Check interior lights, too, just to be on the safe side.
Look at Your Tires
How are your tires? If they’re getting up there in age it might be time to get a new set of tires before fall kicks in solidly. But if your tread still looks good, make sure that the air pressure is where it needs to be. If you haven’t gotten your tires rotated or balanced in a while, now is the time to get that done. It’s also a good idea to get your alignment checked at the same time.
Make Sure Your Fluids Are All Good
Next up are fluids. You want to make sure you have antifreeze on board, of course, but other fluids like windshield wiper fluid are helpful, too. Check your oil, while you’re at it. If it seems low or dirty, or it’s been a while since your last oil change, then it’s time to go ahead and get that handled now. You’ll be glad you were proactive about it.
