Four Signs Your Car Needs an Oil Change Soon

Not sure how long it’s been since you got the oil changed in your car? It’s surprisingly easy to lose track of when you last had that service handled, but there are some warning signs you cannot afford to ignore. Max Mile Car Care Center has a list for you that can help.

You’re Noticing a Change in Fuel Mileage

Fuel mileage drops off when the car’s engine is working harder than it is supposed to in order to keep the car going. One of the factors involved in keeping the engine working efficiently is having fresh oil available as often as necessary. If you’ve been holding off on getting oil changes when you really should, that can be contributing to lower fuel mileage than you expect to see.

You’re Seeing More Exhaust Smoke

Another problem you might encounter is that you might start seeing exhaust smoke. This often happens because the car’s engine is burning more gas than it usually does, and you’re seeing the results in the exhaust. Burning more gas than usual creates more carbon residue, which is likely going to tint the exhaust fumes darker and make them much more visible.

Or You’re Seeing an Oil Leak

If at any point you spot an oil leak underneath the car, that’s a big clue that something is wrong somewhere. Your car’s engine needs all the oil it can hang onto, so when you do have an oil leak that’s not good news. There could be issues with the oil filter or with any of a number of seals that are supposed to keep the oil contained. An oil change replaces the oil, but it also gives an auto technician a chance to get to the bottom of those sorts of issues.

You’ve Got Dashboard Warning Lights

Any time you’re seeing dashboard warning lights, you have got to pay close attention. Dashboard warning lights are how your car communicates to you that there’s a big problem brewing. In the case of oil issues, you might see an oil light, an oil pressure warning light, or even the check engine light. All of these are vital to get checked out if they pop onto the dashboard.
